Anecdote
In 579, his father appointed Hermenegildo as Governor of Betica, based in Seville. Gregory of Tours records his conversion to Catholicism and baptism as "John". He converted to Catholicism in Seville in 580 under the influence of Leandro, Archbishop of Seville. He revolted against his father's Aryan rule in 581, retired to Córdoba in 584, but was captured and exiled to Valencia. Isidore of Seville records that "his son Hermenegild" rebelled against his father who defeated him.
